Climb the hill of Ano Syros to visit the Cycladic citadel of the late Byzantine era. There you’ll experience the effect of the famous Cycladic scenery. Ano Syros is a labyrinth of small houses built close together, narrow cobbled streets and covered passageways that lead to the top where the Church of Saint George is located.
Drive along the coastline of the southern part of the island to find your favourite organized beach. Pick between cosmopolitan beaches like Agathopes and Galissas with cafes, restaurants and tavernas to relax on a sun lounger. Spend your family beach day at Megas Gialos, Vari, Azolimnos or Kini. Or go to Finikas for water sports or to moor your boat in the marina there. If low-profile, yet popular, beaches are your thing, Komito, Ambela, Achladi, Delfini, Lotos and Kokkina are all good choices.
The island’s interior is dotted with charming villages, like Chroussa and Episkopeio that will introduce you to yet another face of Syros.
Ready for another change of scenery? Drive north through winding mountain roads to experience another change; rugged landscape, secluded tiny beaches and views along hiking paths. Experience everything that makes Cyclades to reign supreme as some of the most coveted holidaying spots in Europe. Dine in the small tavernas along your route for delicious Greek food. Or board one of the small boats sailing from the bay of Kini to secluded beaches like Aetos, Lia, Varvaroussa, Marmari, Gria Spilia and Grammata to see beyond the tourist hustle.
